The Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year recognition program promotes service to the Club, community and family, and rewards academic excellence and strong moral character. The 2011 Youth of the Year is Amanda Jubin, who exemplifies it all.
Amanda’s many volunteer endeavors led her to take a significant role as secretary to the Club’s leadership group, the Keystone Club, president of our dance team, In Da Zone, and a member of our Junior Achievement, Neighborworks, Resurrection and Hope International Ministries, and the National Youth Leadership Forum of Medicine. From organizing a fundraiser for Haiti, to helping members with homework, Amanda sees a need, and answers it.
A first generation Ghanaian, Amanda gracefully blends her families’ heritage with American culture. Her activity with the Black Student Union and the Boys & Girls Club has played a central role in helping her balance her ethnicity and culture.
Amanda’s favorite quote is “The question is not who is going to let me; the question is who is going to stop me,” and for this year’s Youth of the Year, Amanda Jubin, there is nothing stopping her now. A freshman at Quinnipiac University, Amanda’s leadership and motivation will direct her towards her dreams, as she continues to be a leader and mentor in our community.
