John Bassett, former president of Clark University, and his wife Kay have left a lasting legacy in the Worcester community. During Dr. Bassett’s presidency, Clark University’s work on the Gardner/Kilby/Hammond revitalization project improved Main South and directly benefited the Boys & Girls Club. The Bassetts supported many Club programs and partnerships with Clark. It is appropriate that our learning center be named after John and Kay, who actively support our mission to help young people succeed.
At a reception in May, our learning center was officially named the John and Kay Bassett Learning Center. This room was equipped by a generous grant from the George I. Alden Trust. The reception was attended by Clark University trustees and employees, representatives from the Alden Trust, and Club staff, as well as current Clark students who volunteer and work at the Club. The Bassetts have retired and relocated to Washington, where they continue to support educational causes. They are sorely missed in Worcester, but their work continues in the learning center that bears their name.
